The following websites offer information about coins, medals, and related collectibles featuring solar eclipses.
August 21, 2017
Other than the medals featured on this website, I know of some numismatic items for the 2017 eclipse, and there are probably more:
- This .999 silver "dollar" created by the Native American Mint for the Oglala Lakota of South Dakota and sold exclusively by The Coin Vault.
- Awesome .999 silver medals from the Moonlight Mint (Daniel Carr). The current catalog has full information, but that page changes from time to time; the medals can also be found in the online store.
- The US Postal Service issued a commemorative stamp printed with temperature-sensitive ink. The total eclipse image transforms to a full moon due to the heat of your hand. Pretty cool!
Historical Eclipses
- This is a very beautiful gold medallion from Italy featuring the 1961 eclipse.
- In 1999, Romania issued a 2,000 lei polymer banknote to commemorate the last eclipse of the millenium.
- Eclipses on coins and medals from Astrocoins by "Mr. Collector." This website has many other pages featuring coins about all manner of astronomical topics.
- The magazine article "Minting a Celestial Memory" focuses on elipses on ancient and medieval coins.
- Collection of Solar Eclipse Coins and Medals from eclipse-chasers-dot-com. (Link temporarily disabled due to security warning.)
